First Lady Michelle Obama gave a speech and made a fashion statement at last night’s Democratic National Convention — and both were equally well received.
“I found out Mrs. Obama was wearing one of our designs when she stepped out on stage to make her beautiful speech,” designer Tracy Reese tells EW. “In the midst of [New York Fashion Week] preparations, seeing [her] in one of my designs was a truly extraordinary moment.”
While fans of the FLOTUS’ style can buy the J. Crew “Evelyn” kitten heels ($245) she wore last night, Reese, a Detroit native who launched her NY-based collection in the ‘90s, says the dress is a one-of-a-kind. ”This particular fabric is a rich Italian silk jacquard in a great formal design,” the designer says of the frock.
