'Vampire Diaries' star Candice Accola on Caroline's budget-friendly wardrobe

While Elena spent her summer vacation between the sheets with Damon, Caroline was busy designing the color palette for the girls’ college dorm room. Their cavernous, romantically lit living space isn’t exactly based on reality — where are the cinder block walls and fluorescent lights? —  but even though Caroline and Elena have matriculated at Whitmore, so far they’ve stayed true to their signature styles.

“What I love about the wardrobe on The Vampire Diaries is that it’s hip, youthful, fun, and flirty, but it’s also true to the idea of keeping these characters in a small town,” says Candice Accola, who plays Caroline. The former Miss Mystic Falls often wears baby doll tops and denim jackets from affordable brands like Guess, Free People, Anthropologie, and Urban Outfitters.  “[The characters] aren’t walking around in designer duds all the time. We’re still on trend, but they’re more wearable trends than [you see on] other shows.” The clothes aren’t just wearable, they’re covetable. Fashion-obsessed Vampire Diaries fans turn to sites like Worn On TV, Possesionista, Shop Your TV, and TVD Style to track down clothes and accessories they’ve seen on the show.

Read on to see what Accola says about her character’s taste in clothes,  why the L.A.-based actress has had to learn how to dress for cold climates, and where you can find wardrobe pieces worn by Caroline and Elena in the season five premiere episode.

Gilt City selling CW 'Originals' vampire-inspired blood juice cleanse

The juice cleanse craze has hit a new level. Today, Gilt City began offering a vampire-inspired “Blood Cleanse” tied to the CW network’s new series The Originals.

In anticipation of The Vampire Diaries spinoff, Joulebody created a three-day cleanse that promises to “make you feel like you could live forever,” and “keep you on the prowl morning through the night.”

There isn’t any actual blood in there. In fact, unlike the Mikaelson’s  — “the original vampire family of New Orleans” — diet, these liquid meals are vegan.   READ FULL STORY

Nina Dobrev: 'I know what I want, and I know what I like'

At today’s CW Network upfront event in New York City, The Vampire Diaries‘ Nina Dobrev was a vision in blue, wearing a cobalt Versace dress with braided detailing and a pair of iridescent leopard print heels from Rupert Sanderson.

Just as her character’s wardrobe has changed dramatically, so too has Dobrev’s real-life style. Over the past year, the actress has become a perennial best dressed lister, wearing looks from both household name designers like Donna Karan, Elie Saab, and Oscar de la Renta, and edgy up-and-comers like Thakoon and Guishem.

To what does she attribute her killer style? EW caught up with the actress to find out — and to ask her whether she agrees with Gwyneth Paltrow’s declaration that this year’s Met Gala “sucked.” READ FULL STORY

It's the 'Vampire Diaries' prom! -- SEE THE PHOTOS

On the April 18 episode of The Vampire Diaries, Elena, Stefan, Bonnie, Damon and the rest of the gang trade jeans and leather jackets for taffeta and tuxes. That’s right, it’s prom season in Mystic Falls!

Whether human, vampire, werewolf, or witch, Vampire Diaries costume designer Leigh Leverett said she kept the first rule of prom fashion in mind when dressing each of the characters for the big night — Make sure no one else shows up wearing the same dress. “[The girls] tried on a bunch of gowns, probably 6 to 10 each. We picked a bunch that we liked, so it was just figuring out who [would wear] what so that they weren’t all in the same silhouettes or colors.” As for the guys, it came down to the ties.

'The Vampire Diaries:' See Elena's new wardrobe -- EXCLUSIVE VIDEO

Elena’s appetite isn’t the only thing changing now that she’s a vampire. Her wardrobe is going through a transition too.

“We’re giving her a slightly more sophisticated look,” said costume designer Leigh Leverett, who explained that Elena will be trading in her usual jeans-and-T-shirt ensembles for more dresses and boots on season 4 of the supernatural series.

And since Elena now has the freedom to accessorize, she’ll be dipping into her jewelry box more often.

“She had to wear the Vervain necklace before, so she didn’t get to wear a lot of good fun jewelry,” said Leverett, who added that we’ll be seeing Elena in more chain necklaces this season. “Of course [Nina Dobrev] likes that because she loves jewelry.”
