The 2013 Met Gala: Who's taking whom (and what will everyone wear?)

At Monday night’s Met Gala, guests are expected to wear ensembles that evoke the theme of this year’s Met Costume Institute exhibition – PUNK: Chaos to Couture.

Earlier this week, Dukes of Melrose star Cameron Silver told the New York Times that “no one has a clue” what to wear to the punk-themed ball. “We keep running into the same problem, which is that rich women don’t want to look punk, or grunge,” Silver, who owns the Decades vintage and consignment boutique in L.A. said of the difficulty he’s had outfitting his wealthy clientele for the big night. “Not that many women want to look like Nancy Spungen.”

For celebrities, finding the perfect punk-inspired ensemble starts with a designer fairy godmother — or godfather, as the case may be.

Will someone wear the Versace safety-pin dress made famous by Elizabeth Hurley and, later, Lady Gaga? Will Gwyneth Paltrow send her team out to find a razor so she can shave her… head and show up with a mohawk? Will Elizabeth Banks come as Effie Trinket? Will Kanye West bring Kim Kardashian? (That last question has nothing to do with fashion, but it had to be asked.)

A list of the designers and their celebrity dates posted yesterday by The Hollywood Reporter may offer some clues. Click on to see who will be escorting — and therefore probably dressing — stars like Jennifer Lawrence, Nicki Minaj, Psy, Jennifer Lopez, and more stars to the Oscars of Fashion.  READ FULL STORY »

Nicki Minaj before vs. Nicki Minaj after -- POLL

When it comes to fashion, Nicki Minaj isn’t exactly known for being demure — heck, the woman plays dress-up with her perfume bottles. So it’s understandable that the American Idol judge found the idea of submitting to a makeunder before being photographed for the cover of a major fashion magazine more than a little daunting.

“To go in front of the camera, without pink lips or big ol’ crazy lashes — you know, nothing — I felt naked,” Minaj says of toning down her hair and makeup for the April issue of Elle. “It was scary!”

Though Minaj, who, according to reports, recently fired her hairdresser, stylist and makeup artist, had already begun toning down her look, the singer found it particularly hard to give up her signature beauty product for the Elle experiment. “I’m so, so attached to my pink lipstick, it’s hard,” she said of trying out a nude lip instead of her usual bright pink pout.

'American Idol' Fashion Face-Off: Mariah Carey's Louboutins vs. Nicki Minaj's Louboutins

American Idol judges Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey still haven’t resolved their differences, but they do seem to have found some common ground — fashion.

During a panel at yesterday’s TCA event, journalists asked the women about the altercation that occurred during Idol auditions in North Carolina last fall. Here’s the exchange that followed:

Minaj: “We’re professionals.”
Carey: “It was sort of one-sided.”
Minaj: “No, it wasn’t.”
Carey: “At least we can agree on my shoes.”

Speaking of shoes, both Carey and Minaj were wearing red-soled heels from red carpet favorite Christian Louboutin. Carey paired her green Lanvin frock with Louboutin’s fur-and-feathered “Pluminette” style, while Minaj opted for a pair of the brand’s strappy ”Zoulou” platforms.

Whose Louboutins were better? Cast your vote in the poll below.  READ FULL STORY »
