We swooned when Barney proposed to Robin (Cobie Smulders) — but that was partly because Robin, who has made some questionable fashion choices in the past, looked so stunning in Monique Lhuillier.

Costume designer Reiko Kurumada told EW that the second she saw the sequined red gown, she knew it was The One. “That specific dress was perfect for the engagement scene. We didn’t want to take away from that very special, poignant moment between Barney and Robin, while still illustrating Robin’s classic, timeless, natural beauty,” she said. “The dress is so elegantly simple, while still making the style impact we wanted by the gorgeous color and delicate bead work.”

Whether you’re a star on the rise or a woman in her prime, there’s no better time to break out the sequins and metallics than New Year’s Eve, just ask Nashville costume designer Susie DeSanto.

When DeSanto dressed Connie Britton’s character Rayna Jaymes and Hayden Panittere’s Juliette Barnes for a scene at the famed Ryman Theater, she went for the gold with sexy dresses that were also age-appropriate. “Speaking to their characters, I wanted to make sure that there was a generational difference,” DeSanto said. What’s the trick to wearing metallics in your 20’s, 30’s and 40’s?  READ FULL STORY

All eyes were on Megan Draper (Jessica Paré) when she serenaded her husband with “Zou Bisou Bisou.” Mad Men costume designer Janie Bryant helped create the memorable moment when she dressed the character in a sultry cocktail dress.

“It was really the first time the audience has seen a mini on Mad Men, so it was important for the scene to be all about her,” Bryant told EW of Megan’s vintage dress, which she borrowed from Hollywood’s Costume Rentals Corporation. “I made the bell shape [sleeves] bigger so they would be more dramatic for dancing.”
