Lily Collins gets an out-of-this-world makeover for a new music video

Katy Perry may have hung up her blue wig, but Lily Collins picked up on the bold hair trend for her appearance in a stylish new music video.

The Mortal Instruments actress sports a blue coif in M83’s “Claudia Lewis,” in which she plays an alien sent from outer space to experience high school here on Earth.

The mastermind behind Collins’ vibrant look? None other than fellow actress Bryce Dallas Howard, who directed the video — which co-stars Israel Broussard (The Bling Ring) and Ashley Rickards (Awkward) — for MTV’s critically acclaimed Supervideo series. (Drew Barrymore previously worked with the franchise on a video for Best Coast’s “Our Deal,” in which she directed Chloe Moretz, Shailene Woodley, and Donald Glover.)

“Blue hair is definitely having a moment,” Howard recently told Vogue.com, though I’m guessing she was likely referencing Lea Seydoux’s Blue is the Warmest Color, and not Amanda Bynes’ wigged look for a recent court appearance. “It happens at least every seven years.” The Help actress took visual cues from David Bowie’s 1976 sci-fi drama The Man Who Fell to Earth, but added her own timely twist. “We were toying around with the idea of [giving] her orange-ish hair [like Bowie’s]… but we wanted to go for something that was truly other-worldly.”

When it came to Collins’ wardrobe, Howard worked closely with costume designer Patrik Milani. EW caught up with Milani to learn more. Read on to find out more about Collins’ space makeover and watch the video.  READ FULL STORY

MTV Movie Awards: Who should win Best Shirtless Performance? -- POLL

Last year’s MTV Movie Awards asked voters to pick the actor who had the biggest on-screen costume and makeup transformation (Elizabeth Banks took home the honors for The Hunger Games). This year, apparently less is more. Best Shirtless Performance, a new category for 2013, examines who looked best in the buff. Predictably, there are some serious contenders… READ FULL STORY

Fashion Face-Off: Rita Ora vs. Rihanna

Is Rita Ora a fashion copycat? In the past, fashion bloggers have accused the British singer of taking style cues from Rihanna, and her appearance on the red carpet at last night’s MTV European Music Awards didn’t help disprove the theory. (Nor did the fact that she worked an umbrella — ella, ella —  into her performance.)

While Ora made a dramatic entrance in Marchesa’s blood embroidered illusion dress, her look echoed the vision of Rihanna in a sheer crimson Elie Saab gown at the 2010 American Music Awards.

To be fair, many A-list ladies have chosen to wear the fiery color on the carpet this year. Still, we have to ask; Rita or RiRi, who looked hotter in red? Cast your vote in the poll below.

2012 MTV EMAs: Heidi Klum's 6 sexy outfits

Last night Taylor Swift, Kim Kardashian and even Psy rocked the red carpet at the 2012 MTV Europe Music Awards in Frankfurt, Germany, but nobody out did host Heidi Klum who showed out on stage in her home country in a parade of revealing dresses.

Before the festivities, the model-turned-TV personality revealed: “I have six different outfits from Versace that I love very much and I think for an event like the MTV awards I usually have a little bit more fun, I can be a little bit more sexy, a little more rock ‘n’ roll…So they have got me beautiful outfits, great shoes and great jewellery, but it depends how much time I have to change in between (hosting) because it’s all live.”

MTV 'House of Style' hosts Karlie Kloss and Joan Smalls talk about taking the reins

It’s official: MTV’s House of Style has two brand new hosts.

Models Karlie Kloss and Joan Smalls will follow in the footsteps of Cindy Crawford, Rebecca Romijn and Molly Sims when the fashion show returns in the form of a bi-weekly web series on Tuesday, October 9.

EW hopped on the phone with Kloss and Smalls ahead of the announcement, which kicked off tonight’s Video Music Awards, to discuss why they seized the opportunity to be more than just a pair of pretty faces, the show’s new digital  format, and why they weren’t fans of the original series — HINT: They were still in diapers.
