Met Gala: Best moments of Vogue's red carpet live stream

The theme of this year’s Met Gala, celebrating the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s latest exhibit Punk: Chaos to Couture, was, fittingly, punk rock. But sadly, not even Madonna dared to just wear a Clash t-shirt and jeans to what’s become the “Oscars of the East Coast.” From watching Vogue.com’s live stream of the Met Ball’s red carpet, we learned the celebs and their designer dates had a wide range of punk knowledge — from barely any (Hailee Steinfeld: “Avril Lavigne’s not punk?!”) — to Gwyneth Paltrow claiming that Spence girls wore safety pins in their ears.

Below, some of our favorite moments from the red carpet, hosted by Hillary Rhoda and Vogue’s Billy Norwich:

The 2013 Met Gala: Who's taking whom (and what will everyone wear?)

At Monday night’s Met Gala, guests are expected to wear ensembles that evoke the theme of this year’s Met Costume Institute exhibition – PUNK: Chaos to Couture.

Earlier this week, Dukes of Melrose star Cameron Silver told the New York Times that “no one has a clue” what to wear to the punk-themed ball. “We keep running into the same problem, which is that rich women don’t want to look punk, or grunge,” Silver, who owns the Decades vintage and consignment boutique in L.A. said of the difficulty he’s had outfitting his wealthy clientele for the big night. “Not that many women want to look like Nancy Spungen.”

For celebrities, finding the perfect punk-inspired ensemble starts with a designer fairy godmother — or godfather, as the case may be.

Will someone wear the Versace safety-pin dress made famous by Elizabeth Hurley and, later, Lady Gaga? Will Gwyneth Paltrow send her team out to find a razor so she can shave her… head and show up with a mohawk? Will Elizabeth Banks come as Effie Trinket? Will Kanye West bring Kim Kardashian? (That last question has nothing to do with fashion, but it had to be asked.)

A list of the designers and their celebrity dates posted yesterday by The Hollywood Reporter may offer some clues. Click on to see who will be escorting — and therefore probably dressing — stars like Jennifer Lawrence, Nicki Minaj, Psy, Jennifer Lopez, and more stars to the Oscars of Fashion.  READ FULL STORY »

Hairstylist Mark Townsend on how Jennifer Lawrence's hair has changed (but she hasn't)

Oscar Sunday was a big day for Jennifer Lawrence, but it was also a big day for her hairstylist, Mark Townsend. The hair guru has been styling the actress’ locks for years — even before she worked the awards season red carpet for 2010′s Winter’s Bone – and just as Lawrence has evolved from a small screen supporting actress into an Oscar-winning leading lady, Townsend says her hair has come a long way in a short time.

At an event promoting Dove hair care products (Townsend works for the brand) in New York City last week, EW chatted up the celebrity stylist to get the inside scoop on how Lawrence has stayed true to her, ahem, roots, his own Hollywood big break, and how he manages the “hair politics” that come with having a bevy of star clients.

“The best thing with Jennifer is she’s kind of grown into herself,” Townsend said. “She’s got so much hair, it’s easy for me to go hyper-glam. But she [personally] favors a natural, softer look. She really shined through this whole awards season because she was comfortable and doing what she wants to do. She is such a dream collaborator.”

And, apparently, a messy eater.  READ FULL STORY »

'The Hunger Games: Catching Fire': Katniss' wedding dress designer revealed

Until last night, any betting fashionista would have put her money on the theory that Katniss Everdeen’s wedding dress — as seen in the Victory Tour portrait released earlier this week — was the work of Alexander McQueen creative director Sarah Burton.

But Catching Fire costume designer Trish Summerville has set the record straight, revealing that the maker of the gown is a lesser-known fashion designer who has dressed real-life celebrities like Lady Gaga and Kim Kardashian.

Click on for all the details on Katniss’ wedding dress.  READ FULL STORY »

'Catching Fire': Jennifer Lawrence's Katniss is ready for her couture close-up

In her first official Victory Tour poster, Hunger Games winner Katniss Everdeen sported a simple, clean white dress that emanated innocence and humility. But the District 12 tribute’s outfit in this newest victory poster is anything but simple. Instead, it’s an intricate, high-volume design that resembles a creation from the fall 2011 Alexander McQueen ready-to-wear collection — and evokes the romance of the gown a certain Best Actress winner wore to the 2013 Academy Awards.
