What They Wore: Beyonce, Jay-Z, and more stars who skipped the Grammys red carpet

If, like me, you thought the red carpet at tonight’s Grammy Awards was a little bit “meh,” it may have been because some pretty major stars skipped the fashion parade.

I’m looking at you, Beyoncé and Jay-Z.

Lorde, Julia Roberts, and Reverend Queen Latifah also must have entered the Staples Center through a side door, because we had to wait until the ceremony was well underway before we could get a glimpse at what they were wearing.

Report: Jay-Z's Barneys collection rakes in $1 million

Despite the controversy surrounding the release of Jay-Z’s holiday collection for Barneys New York, the rap mogul’s line of clothes and accessories for the upscale retailer raked in a lot of money.

The New York Daily News quotes a source close to Barneys, who claimed that while the numbers were still being tallied, “profits had exceeded the million-dollar mark.”

The launch of the “A New York Holiday” collection was overshadowed by accusations of discrimination when two black shoppers said they were racially profiled after making expensive purchases at the luxury department store. Though his fans criticized him for refusing to pull out of his fashion partnership with Barneys, Jay-Z defended his decision to go ahead with the line as planned.    READ FULL STORY

A naked billboard, a celebrity in blackface, and more of 2013's biggest fashion faux pas

The fashion world had plenty of high moments this year, but let’s face it, it’s more fun to reminisce about the lowest low moments.

Luckily, there were plenty of fashion faux pas committed in 2013.

From Elle magazine’s Melissa McCarthy cover-up to the Jay-Z and Barneys backlash, and Julianne Hough’s regrettable Halloween costume, read on to see the style headlines that got people talking… and not in a good way.

Barneys cancels party for Jay-Z's holiday collection

Amid continuing controversy over the alleged use of racial profiling by luxury department store Barneys New York, a kick-off party to celebrate the retailer’s collaboration with Jay-Z planned for Wednesday has been called off, reports Women’s Wear Daily.

A brief statement issued by Barneys read simply, “Due to unforeseen circumstances, the event has been cancelled.”

Last month, fans called for Jay-Z to sever ties with Barneys after two separate racial discrimination lawsuits were brought against the store. A petition launched on Change.org urged the music mogul to withdraw from the BNY SCC Gallery and Collection partnership — a deal that included a fashion collection with items ranging from a $70 T-shirt to a $33,900 watch, and an immersive gallery space at the retailer’s New York City flagship. From Rocawear to Tom Ford: Jay-Z's biggest fashion hits and misses

Name checking a designer in a song is nothing new in the world of music, but Jay-Z takes fashion-related rap to a new level on Magna Carta Holy Grail.

“Tom Ford” is an ode to one of Jay’s favorite designers. “I don’t pop Molly, I rock Tom Ford,” he raps, declaring that Ford’s clothes are his drug of choice. In an interview with Billboard, Ford said he’s “completely flattered” to have a song named after him.

But before he rocked Tom Ford suits and ties, Jay’s go-to ensembles included streetwear from his own Rocawear clothing line, ill-fitting suits, and outfits that appeared to be carefully coordinated to match those of then-girlfriend Beyoncé.
