'Gossip Girl': Why fashion blogs should issue spoiler alerts

SPOILER ALERT! If you want to wait until the final episodes of Gossip Girl air later this month to see what happens to Serena, Blair, Chuck and the rest of the gang, stop reading now.

See, issuing a spoiler alert isn’t that hard. So why can’t fashion blogs warn us before they post pictures of the actors filming what look to be pivotal scenes?

After several fashion sites posted a photo of Blake Lively and Penn Badgley on set yesterday, gossip and celebrity sites picked up the thread and soon the Internet was abuzz with Gossip Girl wedding chatter. Serena’s wearing what looks to be a fashion-forward wedding gown and holding a bouquet of flowers! Dan’s in a suit and boutonniere, and he combed his hair! (The fact that the third person in the shot is wearing a clerical collar is also a pretty big clue.) This comes just days after we saw Ed Westwick and Leighton Meester, in character as Chuck and Blair, and appearing to have just exchanged ‘I dos.’

Of course, until we see the scenes unfold on the show, this is all just speculation. But since the fashion blogs started it, I’ve examined the images—and critiqued of the dresses—to see if I could extrapolate any plot hints. See the spoilery photos and read my detailed analysis below.

Penn, Penn, Penn. Can I call you Penn? I’ll assume you said “yes,” and get right down to brass tacks: Where has your fashion sense gone?

As the picture on the right proves, you were a sartorial star in 2008 — that suit you wore to the Fashion Group International’s 25th Annual Night of Stars was sleek, tailored, and totally appropriate for the occasion. Your hair was messy-cute, your tie was maybe a little shiny, but you were pulling it off. You had it all: a credible Blue Steel impression, great style, and the love of one Blake Lively.

But lately, things have changed. Just look at what you wore to a Fashion Week event yesterday — the electric blue blazer! The wide, crotch-long tie cut from some sort of upholstery! The goofy, Tom Hanks in Big hair! What are you hiding behind your back? Where are your socks? Ed Westwick would be mortified if he saw you looking like this.

Ed Westwick says he was a style icon before 'Gossip Girl,' is bringing back the straightjacket

When Ed Westwick picked up a trophy at the 9th annual Style Awards last night, there was one person he didn’t mention during his acceptance speech — his TV alter ego, Chuck Bass.

“I already had it,” the Gossip Girl actor told EW when asked what he’s learned about looking good while working on the stylish CW series. ”I’m my own style icon, that’s why I’m here.”

Westwick rocked the open shirt and evening scarf look at last night’s festivities, so what can we expect to see the fashion-forward actor wearing next?
