Hairstylist Mark Townsend on 'Glee' star Lea Michele's red carpet risk-taking

Björk. Cher. Madonna. Lea Michele?

Bad news for fans who enjoy a good fashion risk: As red-carpet coverage has gotten more popular – even replacing the awards shows as the main event for some fashion-hungry followers – many stars are playing it safe to avoid winding up on the worst dressed list. “[These days] everybody is a critic,” hairstylist Mark Townsend, who has worked with Jennifer Lawrence, Michelle Williams, Lea Michele and many others, said. “The Internet has changed it. At some [point in] time, if you were on TV you had some kind of fashion background, but now all these shows like to employ comedians to be fashion experts [instead of actual fashion people].”

One star who Townsend says isn’t afraid of what Joan Rivers and her Fashion Police cohorts might say? Glee star Lea Michele. READ FULL STORY

Best of 2012 (Behind the Scenes): Rachel and Kurt's New York fashion on 'Glee'

After two years of assisting Lou Eyrich — who is now creating nun habits and 1960s separates for season two of American Horror Story — costume designer Elizabeth Martucci stepped into the lead role in Glee‘s wardrobe department just in time to give Rachel and Kurt their New York City makeovers. In a piece originally published before the season 4 premiere, EW caught up with Martucci to find out how she’s taking the duo’s looks in a new direction, where she finds fashion inspiration, and what it’s like to shop for a living.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Did Lea Michele and Chris Colfer have input on how their character’s style would change once they moved to New York City?
ELIZABETH MARTUCCI: I always enjoy hearing the actors’ thoughts, it’s a collaboration. I’ve been with the show since the second season, so we’re not starting fresh. We have relationships and there’s already trust there.

Kate Hudson models holiday style for Ann Taylor

Halloween is still two weeks away, but Kate Hudson has already gotten into the holiday spirit.

In a new set of ads shot by photographer Norman Jean Roy, the Glee guest star is the belle of a deco dinner party, modeling trendy peplum tops, bold prints, winter accessories and more looks from the Ann Taylor Holiday 2012 collection.

“The holidays are so busy, it’s nice to see that Ann Taylor has designed a collection that can go from day to night so easily,” the actress, who signed on as the face of the label a year ago, says via an Ann Taylor a press release. “The jewelry is strong yet sexy, and has just the right bit of sparkle. It’s perfect for holiday gifts.”

The collection arrives in Ann Taylor stores this week.

Darren Criss hosts a 'Glee' break-ups auction

Still shedding a few tears over last week’s break-up-alooza on Glee?

Darren Criss feels your pain. And he wants to turn it into something positive. “So many tears, so many tissues needed from last night’s episode — so why not do some good while we’re at it?” The Glee star tweeted over the weekend, linking to a charity auction that includes tissue boxes (clever!) signed by each of three ex-couples. Finchel fans have pushed the price of the box signed by Lea Michele (Rachel) and Cory Montieth (Finn) up to a current bid of $2,000, while the one signed by Darren Criss (Blaine) and Chris Colfer (Kurt) has hit $1,850, and the one signed by Naya Rivera (Santana) and Heather Morris (Brittany) is currently topped out at $1,550.

The auction — which ends on Friday — will benefit several different charities chosen by the cast. According to Charitybuzz, Criss will be donating, at least in part, to the Trevor Project, an organization he’s been involved with in the past, and Lea Michele wants the proceeds raised from her lot to go to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund.

It’s certainly the most expensive tissue box I’ve ever heard of, but it’s hard to complain with the proceeds going to charity. If only they were also auctioning Rachel’s killer white jacket from her breakup scene (above). That I might break the bank for.
