'Oz The Great and Powerful': How the magic was made -VIDEO

James Franco, Mila Kunis, Michelle Williams and Rachel Weisz are the famous faces of the new Oz prequel, but a behind-the-scenes video shines the spotlight on the crew members who played a key part in making the movie’s magic happen.

In this clip, Oscar-winning production designer Robert Stromberg (Avatar, Alice in Wonderland) explains how he helped create the whimsical world of Oz, while costume designer Gary Jones describes the process of outfitting the cast and the “joy of working in a land of sheer fantasy.” Special makeup effects artist Howard Berger and makeup department head Vivian Baker also chime in on creating the “big, green, scary witch,” and designing the look of hundreds of background characters.

“Viewers will experience a fantastical world and amazing story,” Franco promises.

Minnie Mouse gets a designer dress to mark the 20th anniversary of Disneyland Paris

What do Natalie Portman and Minnie Mouse have in common?

Both lucky ladies have had custom gowns designed especially for them by Lanvin’s Alber Elbaz.

To mark the 20th anniversary of Disneyland Paris, Elbaz created a one-of-a-kind blue Neoprene sequin and jewel-embellished corset dress for Ms. Mouse, who will wear the frock when she leads a fashion parade at the French theme park on March 23. (Click here to see Minnie in her new dress.)

According to Women’s Wear Daily, Elbaz received a request “via a letter from Mickey Mouse” to create something special for the iconic Disney character. “When I showed her two dresses, she knew exactly which one she wanted,” Elbaz told WWD. “She likes to show her heels and loves earrings, jewelry, colors and everything that sparkles.”  READ FULL STORY

The spirit of the holiday season has sparked another connection between iconic Disney characters and modern-day fashion designers.

Harrods, like Barneys New York, has adopted a Disney theme for its holiday campaign. The world-famous U.K. department store will feature modern interpretations of classic princess gowns — imagined by 10 of the leading designers in the industry — in its window displays.  READ FULL STORY

Celebrity hairstylist Ken Paves on coiffing Disney's newest fairy

He made a name for himself by styling the locks of stars like Jessica Simpson, Eva Longoria and Victoria Beckham, but hairstylist Ken Paves says that working with his newest client — a five and a half inch tall animated fairy — “is probably the greatest thing I have ever done.”

Paves devised the signature hairstyle for Periwinkle (twin sister of Tinker Bell), who makes her debut in Disney’s The Secret of the Wings, a straight to DVD and Blu-ray release out today. And the stylist says it took more than hairspray and bobby pins to come up with a ‘do for the character (voiced by Lucy Hale).  READ FULL STORY
