Oscars 2013: Who was Best (Dressed) Actress? -- POLL

When it came to fashion at the Academy Awards, you PopStylers had some pretty strong opinions — and we heard them loud and clear! Now, let’s join together to get down to the business of crowning a Best Dressed Actress.

Jessica Chastain told reporters she felt “very ‘Happy Birthday Mr. President'” in her silk satin Armani Privé gown.

Charlize Theron worked a Dior Haute Couture gown and a sassy pixie hairstyle.

Anne Hathaway’s pink Prada dress inspired its very own Twitter account.

Jennifer Lawrence swept down the carpet — and later got tripped up while en route to accept her Oscar — in Dior Haute Couture and a “back necklace.”

Naomi Watts went for high impact shine in a metallic Giorgio Armani gown with a “galactic cap sleeve.”

Dior Fashion Face-Off: Jennifer Lawrence vs. Charlize Theron -- POLL

Jennifer Lawrence and Charlize Theron hit the red carpet in Dior Haute Couture at last night’s Academy Awards, which makes total sense when you consider that both women are on the payroll at the French fashion label — Lawrence is the new face of the brand’s Miss Dior line, while Theron has fronted the brand’s J’Adore fragrance since 2004.

Theron was a vision in a white silk bustier dress, an armful of Harry Winston bracelets, diamond stud earrings. And boy, did she work that short haircut.

Lawrence swept in wearing a pale pink and white silk bustier ball dress, which she accessorized with a jaw dropping Chopard “back necklace,” a Roger Vivier clutch, and Brian Atwood heels.

'Snow White and the Huntsman' costume designer: 'It was like we were doing Charlize's own wedding gown'

She has won the Academy Award for Best Costume Design for Chicago, Memoirs of a Geisha and Alice in Wonderland, but Colleen Atwood says that she experienced a few career firsts while creating the wardrobe for Snow White and the Huntsman — which earned her a 10th Oscar nod.

“The level of craftsmanship in this movie has never happened with me before,” Atwood told EW at Tuesday night’s Costume Designers Guild Awards in L.A. “And if it’s never happened with me before, it probably hasn’t happened very often in the last ten years of costume design.”

That craftsmanship is most evident in the dresses worn by Charlize Theron’s evil Queen Ravenna. “We had things that were made from beetle wings, and pieces that were made out of parchment paper, which is an ancient technique not normally used in costuming. I had stuff made in India, in Turkey, I had fabrics woven,” says the designer, who created a total of 2,000 costumes for the film. “There are less and less people in the world who know how to do the things we got to do for this movie.”

Atwood says Ravenna’s wedding gown — which features structured epaulettes designed to look like a skeletal cage — is one of her favorite Snow White costumes, in part because Theron was so appreciative of the work the wardrobe team put into constructing it.

“When we did [fittings for] the wedding gown, it was like we were doing Charlize’s own wedding gown,” the costume designer says of the actress’ reaction upon trying on the finished garment for the first time. “She came in and did a turn around the room to show the girls who helped make it. It’s a special moment when wardrobe people, who nobody ever notices, are regarded by the actors they’ve designed for. It was generous of Charlize to do that, and it was a great moment for all of us.”

The Post-Movie Pixie Hairstyle: Charlize Theron vs. Anne Hathaway -- POLL

Some stars do it for the attention, but both Charlize Theron and Anne Hathaway underwent extreme hair makeovers for acting roles.

After Theron went bald before starting work on Mad Max: Fury Road last summer, she went to great lengths to keep her pate covered up, but at an event at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland last night, the Oscar winner debuted a boyish blonde crop.

Going under the shears “reduced me to, like, mental-patient-level crying,” Anne Hathaway told Kelly Ripa of shaving her head to play Fantine in Les Misérables. One Oscar nomination later, Hathaway stepped onto the red carpet at the Golden Globes sporting a grown-out elfin style with side-swept bangs.
