Kristen Stewart is the face of Chanel's latest campaign

When Kristen Stewart refuses to crack a smile for photographers on the red carpet, is it because she’s being surly or is she just practicing her Blue Steel?

This morning it was announced that the actress has scored a coveted celebrity modeling gig with Chanel. Stewart will star in the campaign for the French fashion label’s Métiers d’Art Paris-Dallas 2013-2014 collection, which was presented in Dallas, Texas on Tuesday. The Twilight star sat alongside Dakota Fanning, Lily Collins, Dakota Fanning, and Zoe Kravitz at the show, where models dressed in Karl Lagerfeld’s Americana-inspired pieces walked down a runway that looked like the inside of a barn.

Each year, Chanel’s Métiers d’Art collection is inspired by a particular geographic location, making its debut in that city. Does this year’s Dallas theme mean that Stewart will look cowboy chic in her ad campaign?

Keira Knightley's Chanel commercial deemed inappropriate for kids -- VIDEO

A Keira Knightley commercial deemed unfit for broadcast?

It may sound unlikely, but that’s just what happened in the U.K. this week when a viewer complained to the Advertising Standards Authority (the U.K.’s advertising regulator) after an old Chanel perfume commercial from 2011 aired during a TV showing of Ice Age 2. The ad, which includes scenes of Knightley undressing in bed and crawling towards the camera, was deemed inappropriate for children because it was “overtly sexual.”

That may seem like standard fare for perfume ads, which are typically pretty sexy, but the A.S.A agreed with the complaint, saying that the spot — directed by Joe Wright (Atonement, Pride & Prejudice) — was too suggestive for children. It can still air on TV in the U.K., just not during programming directed at kids.

Don't understand Brad Pitt's Chanel No. 5 ads? Neither does the guy who directed them

“It’s not a journey. Every journey ends, but we go on. The world turns and we turn with it. Plans disappear, dreams take over, but wherever I go, there you are: my luck; my fate; my fortune. Chanel No.5, inevitable.”

Say what now?

In his debut as the first male face of the iconic Chanel No. 5 perfume, Brad Pitt recited a dramatic monologue that had us all scratching our heads and harkening back to that bizarre 1985 spot for Calvin Klein’s Obsession. According to Saturday Night Live‘s Taran Killam, who starred in a series of spoofs based on the No. 5 commercials, even the director of the ads had no idea what Pitt was talking about.

It was inevitable... Brad Pitt's Chanel No. 5 commercial debuts -- VIDEO

After decades of employing actresses like Marilyn Monroe and Nicole Kidman as the face of No. 5, Chanel signed Brad Pitt as the inaugural frontman for its iconic fragrance. Last week, a series of audio clip teasers featuring Brad asking random questions to no one in particular  — “Are you going somewhere? Where?” — had me scratching my head. Now that the full short film has been released, I finally have some answers… and some questions of my own.

For starters; What it is about Chanel No. 5 that makes Brad all emo and reflective? The actor launches into a monologue that’s full of so many dramatic pauses and soap-oprea stares off into the distance (did he pick up this technique during his 1987 stint on Another World?) that you’d think he was reciting poetry at an open mic night. Watch the commercial below and tell me what you think.

Brad Pitt plays hard to get in Chanel No. 5 campaign tease -- CLIP

For the first time in its 91 year history, a man will serve as the face of the Chanel No. 5 fragrance for women. And what a face it is.

Later this month, the brand will unveil a new campaign — including print ads and a short film shot by Anna Karenina director Joe Wright — starring Brad Pitt. “To keep a legend fresh, you always have to change its point of view,” Chanel Fragrance and Beauty President Andrea d’Avack told Women’s Wear Daily of the new direction. “We think very much that the perfume is a seduction between a man, a woman and the perfume.”

In a teaser released this week, Pitt gives us more of a, well, tease, than the full-on seduction treatment. The 7-second audio clip has him asking, “Are you going somewhere? Where?” and an accompanying image shows just the back of his head. Guess we’ll have to wait until the full commercial debuts on October 15 to get total satisfaction.
