What They Wore: Beyonce, Jay-Z, and more stars who skipped the Grammys red carpet

If, like me, you thought the red carpet at tonight’s Grammy Awards was a little bit “meh,” it may have been because some pretty major stars skipped the fashion parade.

I’m looking at you, Beyoncé and Jay-Z.

Lorde, Julia Roberts, and Reverend Queen Latifah also must have entered the Staples Center through a side door, because we had to wait until the ceremony was well underway before we could get a glimpse at what they were wearing.

Christmas came early for more than a few fashion designers when Beyoncé’s new “visual album” arrived on Friday.

From big-name labels like Versace, Georges Chakra, and DKNY to indie designers like Wendy Nichol, Norma Kamali, and Alexander Wang and even wannabe hipster brands like Urban Outfitters, Beyoncé’s style team really spread the love around when it came to assembling the wardrobe for each of the 17 music videos.

One of the five fashion stylists who worked on Beyonce's new videos speaks

beyonce-visual-album.jpg

Beyoncé surprised everyone when she unceremoniously dropped her new album last Friday — including many of the people who actually worked on the videos.

“Nobody knew. They did it without telling anybody that they were releasing it today,” stylist Lysa Cooper told THR. “We all thought it was going to be released by Christmas or maybe after the New Year. We weren’t really sure, so it was a big surprise.”

Cooper was one of five stylists hired to dress Beyoncé for the 17 videos that comprise the “visual album.” READ FULL STORY

Considering that she debuted the first single in an ad campaign for H&M, it’s no surprise that the 17 videos released along with Beyoncé’s new self-titled “visual album” are chock-full of fashion.

Beyonce debuts her dramatic hair makeover on Instagram

It’s the haircut that could launch a thousand, er, snips. Beyoncé debuted a dramatically shorter new ‘do on Instagram last night, much to the shock of her social media fans.

The blonde pixie cut — reminiscent of Mia Farrow and Audrey Hepburn — had everyone commenting. Even Mindy Kaling took time out from Entertainment Weekly’s New Hollywood party to tweet: “HOLY S*%T BEYONCE HAS A PIXIE CUT”

From Rocawear to Tom Ford: Jay-Z's biggest fashion hits and misses

Name checking a designer in a song is nothing new in the world of music, but Jay-Z takes fashion-related rap to a new level on Magna Carta Holy Grail.

“Tom Ford” is an ode to one of Jay’s favorite designers. “I don’t pop Molly, I rock Tom Ford,” he raps, declaring that Ford’s clothes are his drug of choice. In an interview with Billboard, Ford said he’s “completely flattered” to have a song named after him.

But before he rocked Tom Ford suits and ties, Jay’s go-to ensembles included streetwear from his own Rocawear clothing line, ill-fitting suits, and outfits that appeared to be carefully coordinated to match those of then-girlfriend Beyoncé. Click on to see some of Jay-Z’s biggest fashion hits and misses.  READ FULL STORY
