Oscar Sunday was a big day for Jennifer Lawrence, but it was also a big day for her hairstylist, Mark Townsend. The hair guru has been styling the actress’ locks for years — even before she worked the awards season red carpet for 2010′s Winter’s Bone – and just as Lawrence has evolved from a small screen supporting actress into an Oscar-winning leading lady, Townsend says her hair has come a long way in a short time.

At an event promoting Dove hair care products (Townsend works for the brand) in New York City last week, EW chatted up the celebrity stylist to get the inside scoop on how Lawrence has stayed true to her, ahem, roots, his own Hollywood big break, and how he manages the “hair politics” that come with having a bevy of star clients.

“The best thing with Jennifer is she’s kind of grown into herself,” Townsend said. “She’s got so much hair, it’s easy for me to go hyper-glam. But she [personally] favors a natural, softer look. Just hours after I published my rant on the Modern Family nail polish collection comes news that yet another line of entertainment franchise-inspired lacquers is on the way.

Celebrity manicurist Deborah Lippmann has created 4 signature polishes in honor of the girls on HBO’s Girls. Can we at least expect some raunchy shade names?  READ FULL STORY »

'Modern Family' nail polish collection: Time to draw the line?

Modern-Family

Though the economy is tanking, sales of nail color increased a whopping  70% in the period between January and June of 2012 — call it the “Nail Polish Effect” – so it’s hardly a surprise that lacquer brands are introducing new shades faster than it takes a topcoat to dry. The beauty boom happens to coincide with increased licensing efforts tied to popular entertainment franchises (The Good Wife furnitureBanana Republic’s Mad Men clothing and the forthcoming 50 Shades of Grey jewelry line), which probably explains the recent onslaught of movie and TV-themed nail polish collections.

But while shades based on The Hunger Games 12 DistrictsSkyfall‘s Severine and more of 007′s Bond Girls, and even the ”Let it Bleed” red in HSN’s True Blood beauty line, the new Modern Family nail polish collection has got me stumped. If this continues, it won’t be long before Sephora is stocking a polish line inspired by Homeland, so I’m putting my (well-manicured) foot down now. READ FULL STORY »
