Star audition tapes off the block, memorabilia from 'Star Trek,' 'Superman' and more still to be auctioned

More than 50 VHS tapes of auditions by the likes of Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Julianne Moore will no longer be up for bids during the Julien’s Auctions “Hollywood Legends” sale.

The auction house pulled the tapes and issued a statement after complaints were received from actors’ union SAG-AFTRA — which declared that “auditions are not public performances” – and the Casting Society of America.

Even without the tapes, Julien’s still has hundreds of lots that include costumes, props and other Hollywood memorabilia, and the auction will be held as planned from April 5-6.

Click through the gallery to see some of the big ticket items — some of which are estimated to fetch upwards of $60,000-$80,000 — up for grabs.  READ FULL STORY »

Michael Jackson auction raises over $5 million; Lady Gaga among buyers

MJ-AUCTION-BEAT_IT

The sale of costumes and other memorabilia spanning the career of Michael Jackson netted over $5 million this weekend at Julien’s Auctions in Los Angeles.

Among the collectors who got their hands on a piece of the King of Pop’s music history was none other than Lady Gaga, who placed bids on items including a Jackson-worn glitter glove. “The 55 pieces I collected today will be archived & expertly cared for in the spirit & love of Michael Jackson, his bravery, & fans worldwide,” the singer Tweeted. And while winning bidders’ details are kept confidential, if the final price for the hot ticket items are any indication, Mama Monster spent a pretty penny.

Among the coveted costume pieces — from the collection of Jackson’s long time fashion designers, Tompkins & Bush – was a “Beat It” jacket worn by Jackson on his 1992 Dangerous World Tour, which sold for over $200,000.

A portion of the proceeds of the auction will benefit two charities, Guide Dogs of America and Nathan Adelson Hospice of Las Vegas.
