Oscars Style Memes: Anne Hathaway's 'high beams' are this year's Angelina Jolie's right leg

oscars-anne-hathaway

Step aside, @AngiesRightLeg! Anne Hathaway’s dress and Ben Affleck’s beard were this year’s hot Oscars style memes.

When the structured darts on Hathaway’s Prada gown created the illusion of a wardrobe malfunction, the social media platform went nuts. “Anne Hathaway’s stylist should be fired for not forcing her to wear pasties! HELLO NIPPLES!!!” gossip blogger Perez Hilton tweeted.

Then came the “Breast Supporting Actress” jokes and, inevitably, the @hathawaynipples Twitter handle. “We’d just like to point out that we won Best Supporting Actress without *any* support,” the mystery person behind the account — which quickly gathered over 4,000 followers — joked after Hathaway accepted her Oscar. The Post-Movie Pixie Hairstyle: Charlize Theron vs. Anne Hathaway -- POLL

Some stars do it for the attention, but both Charlize Theron and Anne Hathaway underwent extreme hair makeovers for acting roles.

After Theron went bald before starting work on Mad Max: Fury Road last summer, she went to great lengths to keep her pate covered up, but at an event at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland last night, the Oscar winner debuted a boyish blonde crop.

Going under the shears “reduced me to, like, mental-patient-level crying,” Anne Hathaway told Kelly Ripa of shaving her head to play Fantine in Les Misérables. One Oscar nomination later, Hathaway stepped onto the red carpet at the Golden Globes sporting a grown-out elfin style with side-swept bangs.

'Les Miserables': How costume designer Paco Delgado helped Anne Hathaway create Fantine

Anne-Hathaway.jpg

We already know that Anne Hathaway dropped 25 pounds by surviving on nothing but oatmeal paste and Oscar buzz to play the destitute Fantine in Les Miserables. (Following the strict guidelines of the best-selling book 19th Century French Prostitutes Didn’t Get Fat.) But to make her character look even more brink-of-death emaciated, Hathaway had a secret weapon: costume designer Paco Delgado.

“We worked with clingy fabrics,” says Delgado, who oversaw the creation of more than 2,200 outfits for the cast of the epic movie musical (in theaters now). “And [we] used an airbrush to darken the sides of her costumes to make her look even thinner.”

That wasn’t the only subliminal touch to Hathaway’s wardrobe, which helps show her character’s descent from factory worker to consumptive prostitute.
