A naked billboard, a celebrity in blackface, and more of 2013's biggest fashion faux pas

The fashion world had plenty of high moments this year, but let’s face it, it’s more fun to reminisce about the lowest low moments.

Luckily, there were plenty of fashion faux pas committed in 2013.

From Elle magazine’s Melissa McCarthy cover-up to the Jay-Z and Barneys backlash, and Julianne Hough’s regrettable Halloween costume, read on to see the style headlines that got people talking… and not in a good way.

Adam Levine launches new menswear line for Kmart

Though Adam Levine is often busy working on music with Maroon 5, coaching his team on The Voice, trying to get his acting career off the ground, and trying to convince people that releasing a perfume does not make him a hypocrite, somehow he found time to design a menswear line for Kmart.

On Tuesday, Levine gave a few fashion journalists and other industry insiders a first look at his Kmart collection in New York City.

“It’s great to see all the tiny things we worked on, all the little details, up close and finished,” Levine told the The Associated Press. “Honestly, I think fashion has a lot to do with when you wake up that day; a reflection of where you are, who you are and what you’re going to do. I’m not making a pretentious fashion statement, but you have to put something on, and I’m not wearing a fig leaf.”

Adam Levine explains why his new fragrance is not like other celebrity perfumes -- VIDEO

Twitter never forgets, just ask Adam Levine.

Appearing in a promo video for his new duo of fragrances, Levine addresses the backlash created when he announced plans for his own fragrance collection in 2012… just one year after he sent a tweet disparaging the celebrity perfume industry. “I also would like to put an official ban on celebrity fragrances,” Levine declared via Twitter in March 2011. “Punishable by death from this point forward.”

Now that his eponymous scents are hitting stores, Levine renounces his ban on star-endorsed perfumes — or at least attempts to justify his decision to create his own — in the new video. “I typically hate celebrity fragrances,” begins the Maroon 5 frontman, as images of orchids, models clad in fetish wear, and cartoon explosions flash on the screen. “Now, it’s not that I hate celebrities, and it’s not that I hate fragrances. It’s that when I see them, I don’t necessarily believe that the people who were promoting them were particularly connected to what they were making.”

What sets Levine’s perfume apart? “It’s very basic and very classic, the anti-celebrity fragrance.” READ FULL STORY
