While everyone was wondering which stars would thumb their noses — or flash their boobs — at CBS’ Grammys dress code this weekend, Marion Cotillard had a clothes call at the BAFTA Awards in London.

Or did she?

As the Rust and Bone star walked the rainy red carpet at London’s Royal Opera House, her bright yellow Christian Dior dress appeared to be coming apart at the seams.

Cotillard  ”almost managed to reveal her derriere,” announced UK’s Daily News, showing photos of the star from every possible angle. But while the actress’ floor-length dress did offer a clear view of her upper thighs, there’s just one problem with this wardrobe malfunction story…  READ FULL STORY »

Lizzy Caplan makes our favorite fashion commercial of all time -- VIDEO

lizzy-caplan_510x317.jpg

For those who think some fashion ads are just too pretentious, your fantasy best friend Lizzy Caplan has got you (fashionably) covered.

Caplan stars in a new ad that perfectly parodies the high-fashion world and the commercials that accompany it. “Sometimes I think to myself in French, and listen to old records from the ’60s. They are way better than stuff from today,” Caplan says in a voiceover as she frolics in the grass, poses in hazy lighting and reads vintage paperbacks while she thinks about starting a band. “I like to collect things. I’m good at it.”

Caplan’s publicist tells EW that the ad is for a real fashion company, Viva Vena!, which is mentioned at the end of the commercial, but that the two-minute ad is spoofing “Fashion Films” in general. Check out the semi-NSFW video below: READ FULL STORY »

'The Americans' costume designer on Keri Russell's and Matthew Rhys' cool Cold War style

Tonight, FX premieres The Americans (10 p.m. ET), starring Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys as a pair of Russian spies posing as married travel agents living in suburban Virginia in the year 1981.

The Cold War-era series presents an interesting challenge for costume designer Jenny Gering, who joined the show after the pilot episode (where we see Russell wearing a pair of Guess mom jeans).

“Yes, we want to create a sense of place and time and feel like we’re there, but we don’t want to have crazy clichés running around that will take you out of the story,” Gering says. Something that helps: This is the transitional early ’80s. “It’s a completely opposite silhouette to what people consider to be ‘the ’80s.’ In most people’s heads, it’s big and boxy on top and slim on the bottom, and the ’70s are more slim on top and fuller on the bottom. It was just a chance to really show women’s figures and beautiful tailoring. Everything’s very tactual — there’s a lot of leather and suede. And the palette is lovely — there’s very little black and grey, it’s very autumnal.”

Read on to find out how Fast Times at Ridgemont High and vintage Victoria’s Secret catalogs helped Gering establish the show’s early ’80s aesthetic.

Cinderella gets a new pair of (designer) glass slippers for her Broadway debut

CINDERELLA-SLIPPERS

The Broadway musical based on Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella begins previews tonight, with Tony nominee Laura Osnes slipping into the title character’s famous footwear.

To mark the occasion, Stuart Weitzman custom-designed new glass slippers — or, more accurately, polyvinyl-chloride pumps — for the fairytale heroine.

Working with Cinderella costume designer William Ivey Long, Weitzman created a pair of two-and-a-half-inch see-through heels and bedazzled them with Swarovski crystals so that they can be seen by every member of the audience, even those seated in the rows furthest from the stage.  READ FULL STORY »

Inauguration 2013: What everyone wore

When First Lady Michelle Obama sashayed onto the dance floor with the Commander-in-Chief at last night’s Inaugural Ball, she commanded most of the attention, at least for style watchers.

After much speculation, CNN reports that Mrs. O reportedly chose the ruby colored chiffon and velvet gown by Jason Wu — the same designer she wore for her first dance as First Lady at the Inauguration in 2009 — from a selection of 15 designer dresses. Wu Tweeted  that he was “in shock.”

Now that the inaugural festivities are over, FLOTUS’ outfit and accompanying accessories — which included Jimmy Choo heels, Kimberly McDonald for Forevermark diamond bangles set in 18K gold as well as a diamond embellished ring by the jewelry designer –  will be preserved at the National Archives.

Thanks to all of the celebrity guests, there were plenty more headline-making outfits in DC this weekend. Click on to see what Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Katy Perry, Matt Bomer, Ke$ha and more stars wore to celebrate the President’s second term. SEE THE PHOTOS

Sharon Osbourne responds to Lady Gaga: 'Stop wearing fur, stop looking for publicity'

If you mess with the cub, you mess with the mama bear. Especially if the mama bear is Sharon Osbourne.

After Lady Gaga accused Kelly Osbourne of being a bully in an open letter published on her LittleMonsters.com website Thursday, Sharon posted a blistering response on her own Facebook page.

“I am responding to your open letter to my daughter Kelly, and I am perplexed as to why you would go public with an open letter,” begins Sharon’s response to Gaga, who penned the missive after Kelly commented on the “Born This Way” singer’s weight gain during a recent episode of E’s Fashion Police.

In her post, Sharon includes an email she sent to Gaga’s manager after Kelly began receiving threats from Gaga’s loyal followers. “I reached out to him as Kelly’s manager and mother to ask him if you could address your “little monster” fans and stop them from writing libelous, slanderous and vile comments about my family, including death threats to Kelly,” she writes, going on to say that Gaga’s letter “is hypocritical and full of contradictions.”

In her note, Gaga addressed Kelly’s struggles with weight and body image, taking her to task for criticizing those dealing with similar issues.  READ FULL STORY »

'Project Runway' season 11 sneak peek and cast reveal -- EXCLUSIVE

project-runway-cast

Move over, “I’m not here to make friends.” “I’m not a team player” and its various incarnations could be the new most frequently uttered phrase on reality TV, especially after the new season of Project Runway (premiering Jan. 24). In season 11, every challenge will be a team challenge, much to the designers’ displeasure — the individualistic and often fiery contestants of seasons past have always dreaded team challenges.

But Runway mentor Tim Gunn assures EW that we’re not in for another dreary season full of cranky designers. “Coming out of season 10, which Heidi [Klum] and I refer to as the ‘season of the rain clouds,’ season 11 became sunny again,” he says. He credits the revitalization to the contestants’ genuine desire to win and advance their careers, which he believes was lacking last season. If the below preview is any indication, we’re in for a passionate season, full of drama, great looks, snark from new judge Zac Posen, and of course, fashion disasters. Also see below for more info on the cast that has Tim so excited. READ FULL STORY »
