Beyonce is the new face of H&M

Beyonce_510x317.jpg

The rumors have finally (finally!) been confirmed: Beyoncé is the star of H&M’s summer 2013 campaign.

The first photo released by the clothing retailer shows Knowles in repose, lounging on a beach somewhere in the Bahamas dressed in a white button-down, short-shorts, and peep toe pumps, a single flower tucked behind her ear. She also models swimwear, including a bikini from the H&M for Water collection, which raises money for WaterAid.

Shot by photographers Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin in January, the spokeswoman is introduced as ”Beyoncé as Mrs. Carter in H&M.”

“I’ve always liked H&M’s focus on fun affordable fashion. I really loved the concept we collaborated on to explore the different emotions of women represented by the four elements – fire, water, earth and wind,” Knowles — who, according to Vogue, gave her “personal input on the pieces seen in the campaign” — said in a statement. ”It was a beautiful shoot on a tropical island. It felt more like making a video than a commercial.” Beyoncé’s latest single, “Standing in the Sun,” will be featured in the brand’s commercials.  READ FULL STORY »

First Look: Costumes from the V&A Museum's David Bowie retrospective

The “David Bowie is” retrospective opens at London’s Victoria & Albert Museum this Saturday, and among the most visually impressive artifacts are more than 60 of the music icon’s stage-worn costumes. The ensembles – which have been preserved in climate-controlled conditions under the care of archivist Sandy Hirshkowitz – represent Bowie’s collaborations with fashion designers like Kansai Yamamoto, Alexander McQueen, and Ola Hudson (mother of Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash) to create wardrobes for his fictionalised stage personas .

The exhibit, which also includes Bowie’s own costume sketches, set designs, and album artwork, is sponsored by Gucci. “David Bowie is… one of my greatest inspirations. His individuality, originality and authenticity have been defining. Through his creative genius his influence on music, fashion, art and popular culture over decades has been immeasurable and will continue to be for decades to come,” Gucci creative director Frida Giannini said in a statement.

Tilda Swinton to impersonate David Bowie?

The-Stars-are-Out-Tonight

London’s Victoria & Albert Museum will celebrate the opening of the “David Bowie Is” retrospective tomorrow night, but rather than making an appearance, it’s rumored that the guest of honor will send his Oscar-winning doppelgänger.

Though reps for the museum won’t comment, Women’s Wear Daily reports that “industry sources” say Tilda Swinton “will be impersonating Bowie in his absence.” Swinton, who plays Bowie’s wife in the video for “The Stars (Are Out Tonight),” bears a striking resemblance to the androgynous musician.

The V&A exhibit — which includes personal artifacts like instruments, diaries, album art, and costumes — looks back at Bowie’s life and career. Among those expected to attend the opening night party are Kate Moss, Bill Nighy, and fashion designers Erdem Moralioglu and Christopher Kane.

Beauty Geek: Yoko Ono's makeup tips for men -- VIDEO

YOKO-ONO-MAKEUP

Are you the kind of fashion-forward guy who’s brave enough to wear pants with the seat cut out, an LED light up jock strap, and a bra? Then you’re the target audience for Yoko Ono’s latest project.

After designing a capsule menswear collection for Opening Ceremony last year, Ono has re-teamed with the fashion label to produce a video titled Yoko Ono: Make-Up Tips for Men.

Just don’t expect to learn how to apply Adam Lambert-style guyliner.

Broken down into three sections — Daytime Make-Up, Evening Make-Up, and Dawn Make-Up — the video is Ono’s latest conceptual art piece, a mix of animation and text set to a remix of Ono’s “The Sun is Down.” Sure, there’s plenty of rainbows and glitter, but no actual beauty advice. (Sample line: “Everything that sparkles will bring you a sparkling life. Sparkling eyes, sparkling belly button, sparkling legs!”)

What does it all mean!? Watch the video below, head to the comments and enlighten us.  READ FULL STORY »

Did Milla Jovovich steal Patti Smith's punk rock look? -- POLL

Milla-Jovovich.jpg

Most of the fashion-related chatter about Saturday night’s GLAAD Media Awards concerns Madonna’s Cub Scout uniform, but can we talk about Milla Jovovich for a minute?

Dressed in a white shirt and a skinny black tie with her dark bob hairstyle left untamed, Jovovich bore an uncanny resemblance to Patti Smith as she appeared on the album cover – shot by famed photographer Robert Mapplethorpe – of her 1975 debut, Horses.

Was Jovovich attempting to copy Smith’s punk rock style (if so, she should have left the Chanel purse at home) or was this just a sartorial coincidence? We may never know. Did she pull it off? You be the judge! Cast your vote in the poll below. READ FULL STORY »
