Ender’s Game star Hailee Steinfeld wore three bold looks to Comic-Con, yet all eyes were on her hands.
The 16-year-old actress took her outfits to the next level with a playful manicure inspired by the movie, which hits theaters in November. The nail art featured dragon and salamander logos — a nod to the Ender’s Game armies –along with a traditional comic book “Pow” image and pop art by Roy Lichtenstein.
We got all the details on Steinfeld’s sci-fi manicure from the Hollywood salon that created it.
“Everything was her idea,” said Ellie Ames of West Hollywood’s esNAIL Salon, a celebrity hot spot that’s frequented by Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, and Selena Gomez. “She brought [along] some pictures of those designs.” esNAIL general manager Miho Okawara then used gel nail colors to sketch each design, a process that took about 2 hours. Ames says Steinfeld was thrilled with the finished look, which had Comic-Con beauty geeks buzzing.
Want to re-create the look yourself? Non-celebrities can visit esNAIL’s Melrose Avenue boutique. Just bring along a photo of the design you want — and $120 — and ask for the esNAIL Special. “We always like to create nail designs from a picture,” says Ames, who adds that add-ons include Swarovski crystals, 3D art, nail stickers, and anything else your imagination can dream up.
Or you can try it yourself at home. How-to tutorials on geek chic nail art are all over the Internet, just make sure you’ve got a steady hand.
As for Steinfeld’s Comic-Con wardrobe, the actress wore Kenzo’s “Maxi-Eye” dress for the Ender’s Game photo call with co-star Asa Butterfield, changed into simple Michael Kors top and pants for the film’s convention panel, and concluded her trip to San Diego in a bold Bibhu Mohapatra printed top and trumpet skirt.
We can’t wait to see what kind of nail art Steinfeld will dream up for the Ender’s Game premiere.
