Chaz Bono showed off his svelte new figure on the red carpet at this weekend’s GLAAD Media Awards in L.A., revealing an impressive 60 lb. weight loss.
How did he do it?
“I’ve just changed the way I eat,” Bono, who used the Freshology meal delivery plan to kick-start his weight loss, told People. “Diets don’t work.”
In addition to healthier eating habits, the season 13 Dancing with the Stars contestant uses the ballroom moves he picked up on the reality competition to stay active.
“I still enjoy dancing. I still take classes,” said the 44-year-old, who has also taken up martial arts training.
Last November, Bono looked to The Doctors‘ co-host Dr. Travis Stork to help him lose a recommended 50 lbs. to 80 lbs.
“Because I’m transgender, I was always completely disconnected from my body. I really lived in my head and just kind of tried to ignore everything from the neck down,” Bono, who recalled being put on a number of diets as a child, told Stork during the sit down. “I didn’t have the incentive that a lot of people have of wanting to look better because I hated the way I looked. I could’ve been thin as a rail; I was going to still hate the way I looked.”
After hearing the results of a physical exam conducted to asses the state of his health, Bono made a pledge to lose weight and get healthy. “This isn’t a TV stunt,” he told Dr. Stoker. “This has definitely brought up stuff for me that is surprising and difficult, and I am addressing it.”
