Heidi Klum told us that in fashion, one day you’re in and the next day you’re out. In John Galliano’s case, he was in, he was out, and now it seems, he’s back in the game. Fellow designer Oscar de la Renta has invited Galliano to take up residence in his New York design studio for a few weeks, according to a report by Women’s Wear Daily.

Things went downhill for the famed designer in late 2010 and early 2011, when he made a series of anti-Semitic rants in a Paris bar, one of which resulted in his arrest, and the other which was captured on video and posted online. Galliano was fired from Christian Dior, impersonated by Taran Killam, and scolded by Natalie Portman (a celebrity spokesperson for Dior). We’ve heard very little from the disgraced designer since his very quick and public downfall.

In the WWD article, de la Renta is quoted as saying, “John and I have known each other for many years and I am a great admirer of his talent. He has worked long and hard on his recovery and I am happy to give him the opportunity to reimmerse himself in the world of fashion and reacclimate in an environment where he has been so creative.”

Galliano has attributed his outbursts to his alcoholism and says that he has spent the past two years in recovery and trying to make amends with various Jewish organizations. EW contacted Natalie Portman’s rep to see if the actress had any comments on Galliano’s efforts to join the fashion community again, but have yet to hear back.
