Just hours after I published my rant on the Modern Family nail polish collection comes news that yet another line of entertainment franchise-inspired lacquers is on the way.
Celebrity manicurist Deborah Lippmann has created 4 signature polishes in honor of the girls on HBO’s Girls. Can we at least expect some raunchy shade names?
Nope. Lippmann says the colors are called “Hannah,” a “hapless hunter green” that’s an homage to the character played by Girls creator Lena Dunham, “Marnie,” a “prim and proper pink” named after Allison Williams’ naive gallery girl, “Shoshanna,” the “virtuous vivid violet” tribute to the naive sprite played by Zosia Mamet, and “Jessa,” a “bohemian burgundy” inspired by Jemima Kirke’s free-spirited alter-ego.
With the exception of Shoshanna, I have a hard time picturing these characters wearing something as mainstream as a TV-themed nail polish, but Dunham is a real life manicure fan. “Deborah Lippmann’s colors are irreverent and classy and I’ve always coveted them (and stolen them from my mother), so who better to embody the Girls spirit in polish form,” she said in a statement. “I’ve been wearing Hannah like it’s going out of style.”
The Deborah Lippmann Girls nail polish collection ($45 at lippmanncollection.stores.yahoo.net) is now available for pre-order.
