Get ready for cartwheels and color! Betsey Johnson is currently filming a reality show with her daughter LuLu that is.
The Style network says Betsey + Lulu, set to premiere in early spring, 2013, “explores the unique lives of fashion icon Betsey Johnson and her muse, daughter and confidant Lulu as they struggle to maneuver their ever evolving mother-daughter relationship.”
Cameras were rolling during New York Fashion Week, catching the behind the scenes action at Johnson’s playful retrospective runway show that also doubled as her belated 70th birthday bash.
Models strutted on a glitter lined runway carrying balloons and showing off Johnson’s flirty tulle dresses and crimped hair, a live piglet made a cameo, Lulu popped out of a fake cake and Cindi Lauper belted a live performance of “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” as the designer took her signature end-of-show cartwheel. And that’s just for episode 1.
It’s a long overdue celebration for the iconic designer, who filed for Chapter 11 bankrupcy and shutterd her namesake retail stores earlier this year. While she told WWD that she doesn’t actually watch reality shows, we’re sure she’ll bring some crazy scenarios to the small screen.
Will you tune in to watch Betsey + Lulu?
